Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was born in Feodosia,on July 17, 1817, into a merchant family of Armenian descent.Even as a child, Ivan was shown to have aptitude for music and drawing. The first lessons in artistic skills were given to him by a local architect, J. H. Koch.

Since 1830, Aivazovsky studied at the Simferopol gymnasium, and
at the end of August 1833 he went to St. Petersburg, where he entered the prestigious Imperial Academy of Arts.

In 1835 he received a silver medal for the landscapes "View of
the seaside in the vicinity of St. Petersburg" and "Study of the air over the sea". In September 1837 Aivazovsky received the Big Gold Medal for the painting

In view of the special success of Aivazovsky, it was decided to release Aivazovsky from the academy two years earlier and send him for these two years to the Crimea for independent work, and after that
on a business trip abroad for six years.

The union was not happy, and after 12 years the couple parted. A. N. Sarkisova-Burzanyan became the second wife of Aivazovsky.

on April 19, 1900, in Feodosia. The painting “Explosion of the ship”,
on which seascape painter worked on the eve, remained unfinished
on the easel.
Aivazovsky's personal life was not rich. He married twice. The first marriage was concluded in 1848. Yu. A. Grevs became the artist's wife. From this marriage, four daughters were born. The union was not happy, and after 12 years
